We all know that films or TV shows that are based on books aren't always a smash hit, but some really shine through (the Netflix series of "A Series of Unfortunate Events," for example); it's really a case-by-case scenario. But, no matter how these "movie adaptations" have hurt us before, we still get butterflies of nervous excitement in our stomachs when they announce another one. There have been a few released so far this year (both in theaters and on streaming services - Like "Stargirl" on Disney+), but we still have several more to go. Here is a list of a few of the movies coming out before the end of the year that are based on some of our favorite books!

This film is an adaptation of Roald Dahl's famous children's book (and a remake of the 1990 film of the same name) about a young boy who stays at a hotel with his grandmother, and accidentally stumbles upon a conferences of evil witches. I don't know much about the film, so far, but what I have seen seems promising! "The Witches" is set to release on October 9, 2020.

After his success with his adaptation of "Murder on the Orient Express," actor and director Kenneth Branagh has tackled another one of Agatha Christie's famous Detective Hercule Poirot novels, "Death on the Nile." This time, Detective Poirot is vacationing in Egypt, when (of course) a murderer strikes, and he is put on the case.
I, personally, really enjoyed "Murder on the Orient Express" as both a film and an adaptation, so I have hope for the "sequel!" This film is also, coincidentally, set to release on October 9, 2020!

Interestingly enough, "Death on the Nile" isn't the only book-adaptation that Kenneth Branagh is attached to this year! He also directed and produced the film adaptation of Eoin Colfer's "Artemis Fowl." The story tells of a young man whose father is kidnapped, and he decides to go after him, with the help of fairies, dwarves, and a very competent bodyguard. Now, for those of you who have read the books: I warn you that, based on the trailers, this adaptation looks QUITE different than the books, so don't go in expecting it to be exactly the same. I may be wrong, but just in case, you were warned. This film is to be released on Disney+ on June 12, 2020.
Let's watch and see!
I'm excited to see how good (or bad...) of a job that Hollywood does with these movies-based-off-of-books! However, I wonder if any of them may have to be pushed back, due to the Coronavirus (barring, of course, Artemis Fowl, as it is to be released directly to a streaming service)?
What do you think? Have you read any of these books? Which movie are you most excited for? Are there any other movies that are based off of some of your favorite reads that are coming out this year? Let me know in the comments!
